Only 69 COPO 9560 ZL1 Camaros were built in 1969. It’s likely the most sought-after Camaro ever built. In the early 2000s, a push began for Chevrolet to build another Camaro ZL1, but there was little interest at Chevrolet to do the project. However, GMMG Inc. decided it was a good idea and used Z06 components to build a prototype. Some modifications included Penske adjustable coilovers with Eibach lowering springs, thicker sway bars and modified link geometry, all of which translated into the production ZL1s.
The 2002 ZL1 Camaro was built from B4C Police Package Camaros. Of the 69 built, this is ZL1 No. 36, with the 400 HP engine. Having covered a mere 456 miles from new, it presents exquisitely well inside and out, underneath and all throughout.
Helping give the ZL1 its grunt and race car feel are a Hurst short-throw shifter, a 6-speed manual transmission, Z06 wheels, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, Z06 front and rear brake calipers with Corvette pads and slotted Z06 rotors, 1LE front and rear upper and lower control arms and panhard bar, CNC ported and cast exhaust manifolds painted gray, and a cat-back chambered exhaust with stainless tips. This ZL1 Camaro features a GM SS hood and SS spoiler, with the hood, roof and deck lid wearing the striping kit and 400 HP decals. Ultra-rare in the world of the modern Camaro, this ZL1 by GMMG is unlikely to be seen anywhere else.
I did not even know these Camaros existed. Subtle changes, but very cool.
