Red Ram Hemi in a 59 Coronet?
Anyone have any idea what Hemi is in this 59? It has a 2 barrel with a SN# (fender tag) of H302108850. The # on the driver side front of the head is 1408875 if that helps. Other info on the fender tag is Body 300, Paint MP4, and Trim 152. The car is a 2 door post, pink and white
Re: Red Ram Hemi in a 59 Coronet?
I suspect the VIN is M302 108850, as the 1959 VIN started with "M", which was enginering department talk for 1959 model year.casey001 wrote:Anyone have any idea what Hemi is in this 59? You cannot tell by the VIN what engine is in the car, but the VIN decodes as :
M - 1959
3 - Dodge
0 - Coronet 6
2 - Hamtramck, MI plant
108850 - 8,850th Coronet 6 off the line.
The Coronet 6 came with a 230-cid flathead six. No 1959 Chrysler Corporation car came with a hemi, with the exception of the 1959 Crown Imperial Ghia limous which were actually leftover 1958 CIG limous. The last Dodge hemi was 1957.
Body - 300 : For Dodge, Coronet 6, 2-door
As for the engine, it is a V8 engine, the engine number should be at the front of the block, left side, just below the head. That would help determin just what engine is in the car. It is is a six, it is on the left side of the block, at the front, just below the head.

hemi in a 59 Dodge Coronet
The # on the front of block, just above the water pump is 5354, anyone know what hemi that is?
Re: hemi in a 59 Dodge Coronet
Are these numbers stamped into the blco and are there any other letters/numbers either before the "5354" or above it?casey001 wrote:The # on the front of block, just above the water pump is 5354, anyone know what hemi that is?
If the numbers are stamped into the block, "5354" appears to the sequential production number that started at 1001 every year back then, but the alpha/numeric prefix is needed to identify which engine it tis.
If the numbers are raised (ie, cast) do not know what they mean as it is too short for either a casting number or parts number.
