Hot Rod's 700-hp 5.7L Hemi Build-Up
Check out the Nov 2006 issue of Hot Rod
for their blown 700-hp 5.7L Hemi build-up.
Let me summarize the info you want...
Crate 5.7L Hemi (the baseline) ... 376-hp @ 5700
+ Comp Cam and TTI headers ... 481-hp @ 6500
+ CNC ported heads from MPP ... 524-hp @ 7000
+ Paxton Novi 1500 with an IC ... 712-hp @ 7000
(The motor used the FAST XFI and eDist II mgmt.)
The motor peaked at 10.4 psi and was setup rich.
Imagine an aggressive tune w/ the 6.4L Hemi?

The 6.8L will be going into a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with a STS turbo kit. The engine is a stroked 6.1L with a forged 3.97" crank, Manley rods, and Ross pistons with a 4.075" bore and 8.5 cr. I was one of the first to stroke the 6.1L but now the flood gates have opened up and parts are being made for others so no more need to special order the parts. Everything from the ARP head & main studs to the pistons and head gaskets were custom.
BTW, I have the 5.7 out of the truck and will be building it into a 426 or 440. And I also have another 6.1L also sitting in the garage. I posted about the 6.8L(413 ci) build a couple months ago but it is finally complete.
Here is a pic of the engine:

He used the stock 6.1 crankshaft and welded it for a 4" stroke. I used a 6.1 crankshaft and had it offset ground for my 392. I then had it nitrated and cryo treated. The 5.7 comes with a cast crank. The 6.1 comes with a 4340 forged crank. The MP 5.7/6.1 comes with a forged crankshaft and the 6.1 toner ring, but I cant' get an answer on what grade the forging is.

What kind of torque numbers you looking to get? How fast are you planning on turning th engine?SRT10KLLR wrote:You don't have to imagine, lol. I bought a 6.1(370 ci) and had it stroked to a 6.8(413 ci) with a 8.5:1 cr and will be upgrading my turbo from the 60-1 to the GTS 76.
I can also probably scout you up a couple of 6.1 cranks if you need them, my friend says he has access to a couple of new ones.
Sure Pete...I could use a 6.1 crank. What's the info?
Since there are none in any warehouse or parts depot, and none shown in any inventory, with no release date, having an in-service date of 2050 (yes, 2050) and only available someday maybe if ordered thru the Star Center. Give us all the details. We all know that if anyone can do the impossible..its you.
So.... tell us all the facts. Where located? Price? Part number? Please Pete..please ???????? Now is your time to shine.
Where did you say they were located again?
Thats what I thought.

Early hemi to late sb Mopar trans adapters. Precision billet parts for early hemis.
I know a guy running a 426 stroker with 8 psi and he got 635 rwhp. I am shooting for more since he is using a supercharger and I am turbocharged plus I will be going up to 15 psi.Bailiesdad wrote:What kind of torque numbers you looking to get? If you can get anything 6.1 related let me know. I especially need a 6.1 oil pump but if you can get any blocks, cranks intake etc. I am game.

hemidup, I just got off the phone with a gentleman who has a '70 Cuda and he wanted to put a 6.1 with a turbo to make 1000hp. He was told it could not be done with the 6.1 block so he is selling it to go to a Nascar type block. I told him I thought it could be possible but that it had not been proven yet. Do you think it is possible?

Give me a call, after we talk, I will see what he can do on these.
He told me the oil pumps would be no problem and on the other parts he would have to check with his contacts. If anyone in DCs system can scrouge them up he will.
The money/payment arrangements would have to be made very clear, just like on any high cost speciality part, before I get the parts for you.
(When I cut him loose to get me the parts, he commits to buy them, when he finds them, without any additional contact. Then you get notified they are on the way.)
Just to let you know, his pricing is always within DCs published pricing schedules.

I thought the MP 5.7 came with a cast crank, not a forged one. I have been thinking about build a Hemi but there seems to be alot of confussing. If the MP 5.7 has a forged crank this would help. Is there a diff between the MP 5.7 block & the 6.1 block? As far as strenth. I am wanting to turbo a Hemi so I really dont see the need for stroking and big cubes. But I need a strong bottom end. I know the heads are diff but even the 5.7 heads flow enough to make big power with a turbo setup. Heck if the MP 5.7 would hold up to it I am sure it could make a 1000hp with a the right turbo system.
Is the MP 5.7 block different than the factory 5.7 block? Then there is this 6.4 crate that is suppost to be available. I have not seen where it can be bought. As far as that goes I havnt seen where to buy 6.1 expect from S&P and the few that are making swap kits for them. Mopar doesnt seem to offer them. I would like to turbo one for my car. In time there will be many of them around for parts so it will make a good platform to build & should be easier than finding or buying Big Block parts. But right now I can build a very strong Big Block for less than one of these new Hemi.
I am designing a Twin Turbo kit for the Big Block cars right now but I think in the future a Twin Turbo kit for a Hemi in the A & B & E bodies will be more in demand for people really wanting to step up there performance & keep a good streetable car that will be smooth with loads of power. If the MP 5.7 has a forged crank I feel sure a set of rods & pistons and these engines could very easy put out 800hp with a turbo setup & this would be more than most people even want for a street car setup. A 5.7 could very easy make more power than this but making it & staying together with it is two different things. But there is so many Mustanges running around with 347's that make over 1000hp with heads that dont flow as good as a 5.7 head much less a 6.1 head that making the power with a good twin setup is no problem.
