331 M45S Chrysler Marine Engines - two
Looking for anyone interested in one or both of these Chrysler Marine Hemi's for a boat restoration project. Otherwise I will have to convert one into an engine for my car. But I thought I would offer it up for someone who really wants to restore with an authentic untouched engine(s).

Re: 331 M45S Chrysler Marine Engines - two
I had some time to do some further investigation on the engines.
Autolite distributors. Ignitor brand 12V dC M# IBH4001 UT Serial #'s 11M & 12M
Heads are 1632159-1
Intake is E-4533-M
Exhaust is E-3555 M
Transmissions are 3.17 to 1 reduction gear.
Anyone have any clue on those distributor's? Can't find any web reference to them.

I''m not sure about those distributors, but
they don't appear to be normal marine
hemi units. From the pics you posted, I
noticed that the plug wires appear to be
metal-shielded type, with threaded
metal-shielded connectors at the distributor
cap and at the valve-cover spark plug tubes.
Ignition shielding like that is used to prevent
radio interference where VHF or UHF two-way
communication radios are used and is usually
only seen on aircraft engines and on military
applications. I wonder if those engines were
originally ordered by the military, maybe the
navy or coast guard? I've never seen a set-up
like that on a normal "civilian" Chrysler marine
engine. Do the distributor caps have a metal
casing or covering on them too?

Yes they do. Here is a picture of the Distributor unit. Apparently these were used in M-113? APV units. But this must have been a marine unit of some kind as there is one counter rotating engine.

With the shielding like that I'd say
they're definitely military units of
some sort. Maybe from a small
coast guard patrol or rescue boat,
an air force 'crash boat' or a launch
from a larger navy ship perhaps???
I'm wondering if they're even actually
distributors. They look like they could
possibly be magnetos even! Maybe it's
just the shielding, but what ever they
are, they don't look like any normal
'civillian" marine hemi distributors I've
ever seen. Considering the 'unusual-ness'
of these engines, I hope you can find
somebody with a boat to buy them
from you and put them into.
