help with poly i.d.

hi my name is tim. i just found this place and its great. a wealth of info. i hope some one here can help me. i receintly bought a pile of hemi and poly engines. i have be able to i.d. all except one. the casting number is 1739429-3, which i believe is a 1957 325 poly. however the serial number is a little weird. it is wer 632. i have search every book i have and every web site and i can not find out what "wer" means. also didnt every engine begin with 1001 as a production number. this is only 632. i have pics of this but im not sure how to up load here. any info is appreciated. thanks.

Casting # could be hemi or poly. The WE prefix was used on Chrysler Polys, not Dodge Polys.

Guess i left out...the casting # is a Dodge block. All block codes with WE that I've seen are Chrysler Polys. Lists probably are incomplete. On another Forum a guy posted a Chrysler with a code that starts with Z, another mystery.

thanks for the help. its funny, these engines have been around for nearly 60 years, there are still mysteries with them.

if the valve covers have 2 bolts it's a dodge. if they have 3 it's a chrysler.

The Z-coded engines seem to have been used
in Heavy-Duty - ie - 10 ton and up, Dodge and
Fargo trucks - mostly in dump truck and highway
tractor applications.
