“Hot wings to GO!” would be the best way to describe this incredible Gen III Hemi tribute to the legendary Plymouth Superbird. While original examples of these cars are highly collectible and rarely driven, this one is not simply a fine representation of that limited-release model but an even more upgraded version of the aero-warrior era. This car’s visible changes began with the Ted Janek Superbird conversion kit, which added the wing and styled nose. The car is painted in Titanium Bronze Metallic in honor of the handful of cars that were accidentally painted FK5 Burnt Orange Metallic back in the day. Under the hood is a 6.1L SRT-8 Hemi engine, now equipped with gorgeous 8-stack fuel injection, a March Performance-style accessory drive kit, TTI headers coupled to powder-coated exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers, and a Vintage Air climate system. The engine is backed by an A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission and an 8.75 Sure Grip differential with 3.91 gears. Substantial upgrades include Borgeson quick-ratio power steering, Wilwood power disc brakes, tubular upper and lower control arms including boxed lower units, Magnum Force 2-inch drop spindles and boxed frame connectors. Even greater handling prowess comes courtesy of Hotchkis adjustable tie rods and strut rods, as well as Hotchkis rear lowering springs, all of which is well detailed. After the floor was given a body-color-tinted insulation, the spectacular interior was equipped with Corbeau leather seats, power windows, custom door paneling, 3D gauges in the dash, carbon fiber-rimmed steering wheel, narrowed center console with special shifter and upgraded audio equipment. On the outside, there are now LED tail lights, custom carbon-fiber graphics, chrome exhaust tips, body-color outside sport mirrors and the well-known Road Runner icon decals. In keeping with its other upgrades, this car now rides on a set of polished 5-spoke American Racing wheels and Michelin low-profile tires. The rest will be easy—bid with confidence, admire the craftsmanship and enjoy your flight.
This is a pretty cool restomod. Who doesn't love a Superbird and SRT 6.1L HEMI?
