Aftermarket carb jetting?

Post by dodgeman66 »

I have a crate hemi with original intake that I have installed edelbrock 600cfm carbs. Does anyone know a good jet metering rod setup for these? I think its a little rich with the setup that came in them and I tried the .95 jets and thought it was lean. I was going to install the exact jets and rods in orig. carb setup but dont know what the rods are unless someone knows. Anyhelp thanks, Bill

Try to Find the Factory SS Race Carb Specs

Post by macx »

Before I got totally silly and stuck a tall inline dual quad
pro-stock style intake thru the hood, I had the factory
inline stock exterior dimension SS intake with the opened
up plenums and the little fuel dams in the floor, with the
factory AFB SS carbs on it. I think those carbs were like
750's or something - were definitely bigger than the stockers
by a little.

Anyway, they had that setup down to a T. The carbs came
all setup from the factory with the correct jets, rods, etc.
Ran super, even when the carbs went on that tall ram intake.
And that was mostly on the street, with 12-1/2, a pretty
big cam (for the day) and very free flowing exhaust behind
Hooker headers.

No, sorry, don't remember what that was, but if you could
find the info, it would be a very good starting point. With
the slightly smaller (?) 600 carbs, you might want to step
it down just a tad, and might want to consider modifying
your stock intake like the factory SS package of the later 60's.

aftermarket carb jetting

Post by dodgeman66 »

I restored a pair of 66 hemi carbs a few months ago and checked the jets and metering rods in those but my edelbrocks run too lean with the same sizes but Ive came up with what works best for now. Thanks for the info though. If you should find the instructions on how to improve the intake let me know. Thanks, Bill
