Someone has asked me about a 426 Hemi that they
have come across. The engine is still on a crate, has
never been run, and has safety wires between bolts.
The safety wires are what brings up these questions.
What could have been the original intent for the Hemi?
NASCAR? Marine use? Perhaps even for the Navy?
Does anyone have firm details on who might have had
a 426 Hemi on a crate with safety wires on the bolts?
It is quite an interesting question...

Re: Safety wired hemi
Possibly NASCAR or an endurance race marine application as you have mentioned. Also, SCCA and FIA sports car racers do (or used to anyway) safety wire everything. I can't quite imagine a behemoth like a 426 hemi in sports car class road racer though.....except possibly in a late '60's-early '70's Group 7 Trans Am car. I've heard that Chrysler was involved in some experimental group 7 development around that time.
