The original TorqueFlite was a state of the art three-speed automatic transmission which combined durability, smooth shifting, and high efficiency. It was used by a number of other companies, including high-end European automakers who had their choice of any automatic transmission.
The name has now been attached to the eight-speed ZF automatic, which will be made by Chrysler under license in Kokomo. It is already being used in the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300, and will be standard with the V6 in the 2013 Ram 1500.
