intake manifolds

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but here goes. There are a couple of engine families that have been ignored by the aftermarket in the intake manifold dept:

1953-1955 276/291 Desoto hemi
1956-1957 330/341/345 Desoto hemi
1954-1959 331/354 Chrysler truck, industrial and marine

I used to own some desoto hemis and was lucky enough to find 4bbl intakes for them. They're becoming more popular because of the increased cost of the Chryslers but still no intakes available. Edelbrock used to make a 4bbl. Wonder if the tooling is still around?

My 331 truck motor has the tall exhaust crossovers in the middle, like some of the marine and industrial motors. This thing is kind of a pain to deal with. Even if you block it off you still need to fab your own thermostat housing because the heads don't have the ports built in like the 1955-1958 331-392 car heads. Sure, you can work around it, but why not offer an intake manifold with a cast-in thermostat housing and some tabs to cover the manifold water heating ports?

Like the Desotos, the non-automotive Chrysler motors are increasing in popularity. It would be nice if the intake manufacturers would cater to this. Weiand, Edelbrock, Offenhauser, Hot Heads (probably the only one who cares about this), what do you think?

According to Tex Smith's book the tall deck Dodge & the low deck DeSoto intakes are the same except for the bolt pattern. Pictures show what looks like the same intake w extra metal so either pattern would fit. It seems to me if both patterns were drilled it would provide economy of scale benifits, espicially for the DeSoto guys.

:o It looks like this is finally a reality for the Desotos. Have a look at the 'aftermarket intake' thread in the Desoto section of the forum.
