A driver in Maine found out the hard way that doubling the speed limit will just get you in trouble faster.

A Maine State Police officer on highway patrol on I-95 outside the city of Pittsfield got a call from one of his colleagues that a speeding car was heading his way.

Based on where the message came from, Lt. Bruce Scott, who is also the head of the department’s Traffic Safety Division, figured he’d pick it up on radar in about 12 minutes. Two minutes later he clocked a blue Dodge Neon (which appears to be a modifed SRT-4 model) going 146 mph in a 70 mph zone. Lt. Scott says it was the highest speed he’d ever seen on a radar gun.

According to a post to the department’s Instagram account, Lt. Scott safely pulled over the car and the 18-year-old behind the wheel was arrested charged with for failure to provide proof of insurance and inspection, plus criminal speeding, which is punishable by a 30-day license suspension and up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Watch for a blue SRT4 to be on-sale on CraigsList soon to cover lawyer fees. :o
