Hemi block (426) with "X" casted on the side

Post by DaytonaJim »

Years ago I saw a 426 block with a large "X" casted on the sides of the block. Was this an early race block or ??? Thanks for any help. Jim

I have heard the "X" meant the block was stress relieved. All of the 60's and 70's hemi blocks I have seen have had the "X" cast in.

Thanks for the reply R/T Jack. I have not seen a lot of hemis on engine stands so I did not know if the "X" was unusual or not. Thanks for the info, DaytonaJim
