The 426 Hemi and it was used in all sorts of cars.
But we all know the 1970-71 'Cudas were best. :)

I have to agree with Scott, although I am a bit more partial to the 70 Cudas over the 71's.

I dunno. I'm partial to the 440. In its six pack encarnation i've read about it, i've heard about it, and i've witnessed it run neck and neck with a Hemi. Both were bone stock ofcourse. I just can't argue with that. Single rocker shaft, and bit more reliable and less finicky. I'm an avid 440 fan, however from a racing stand point you jsut can't beat a hemi. Just no way. I'll give the Hemi credit where its due because it was and is an unstopable force on a 1/4 mile strip. It just blows me away to think that the Hemi after so many years still absolutily dominates the SS class. As far as i'm concerend the 440 was the finest mill to ever hit the street. My father, a big Chevy guy and a clothset Mopar fan has even said he considers the 440 to be the finest machine to ever hit the street. He admits fearing it.

It appears it has been decided that the best engine is a Mopar!! What else! I'm a pretty qualified judge since I've owned over 100 cars all different makes and models dozens of mopars. Yeh I'm older than most
of you at 67 years young meaning I still get a buzz from hard acceleration and the smell of tire smoke!! When talking about the best engine I like to set some sort of criteria. Lets say for all out power modified or stock top 5. 1. 426 hemi 2. 392 hemi 3. 440 wedge 4. 354 hemi 5. tie 345 hemi & 340 wedge. For longevity the 40's & 50's vintage Desoto taxi cabs many had over 1/2 million miles with some reputed to have a millon miles, sorry Mercedes. I've been an automotive
master tech for nearly 30 yrs 20 yrs before that owning my own shop
20 yrs. I've serviced a couple Dodge vans 80's vintage 1 360 and 1 318
both of which had over 400k on the original engine without rebuild not
to many non mopars can boast this however there are some.
I enjoy this website tremendously keep up the good work it keeps us old
codgers young! I'll be back!! thanks Tom

past hemi cars 53 dodge 241, 57 dodge p/u 341 desoto, 56 ply 341, 58 300d 392 and many
mopar non hemi.
