Not the hemi tick. Please help.

Post by coastie124 » Thu Oct 08, 2009 10:12 pm

Well I've got an 04 durango 5.7L. Runs great no problems no noises. Then Sunday I go to warm it up before church and as soon as it starts it sounds like I've get metal on metal contact. It sounded like a dust cover being hit by the flywheel. I pulled it no change in sound. The starter is disengaging. It sounds like it's coming from the number 6-8 cylinder bottom end. I also checked the exhaust studs for anything being loose. It also doesn't matter if it's under load or not. It's like a metal baseball card hitting the crank or something. Could it be the CPS? Any other ideas or experiences?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

If you're concerned about the bottom end you should be able to quickly rule out a spun rod bearing.
Turn the crank til the piston is halfway down passed TDC. Stick a pushrod or similar thru the sparg plug hole til it touches the piston. Push down. If it moves you've got a spun bearing.
Don't ask me how I know. Its too sickening.
