Next-gen Nissan Titan to get HEMI power
by Antuan Goodwin

Owners of the next iteration of the Nissan Titan will finally be
able to say, "That thang's got a Hemi!"

PickupTrucks.com has confirmation from Chrysler LLC chairman
Jim Press that the next-generation Nissan Titan will receive a
version of Chrysler's 5.7 liter Hemi V-8 gas engine. This makes
sense when you consider that last May, the Chrysler LLC and
Nissan Motor Co. announced that the next Titan half-ton pickup
would be built by Chrysler at its plant in Saltillo, Mexico, and
that the next Titan would be based on the all-new Dodge Ram
1500. While at the time Nissan and Chrysler didn't state what
powerplant would be powering the new Titan, it only made
sense that it'd be the Hemi, since the platform had already
been built around it.

The 380-horsepower Hemi is the most powerful engine available
for the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The new engine features a host
of improvements over the previous 5.7 liter Hemi, including
variable valve timing and increased usage of cylinder
deactivation tech to boost horsepower and torque by 10 percent
a nd 8 percent, while increasing fuel economy by up to 4 percent.

With Chrysler and Nissan implementing the V-8 Hemi engine and
in light of Ford's developments with ethanol boosted V-8 engines,
it appears to us that the rumors of the V-8's death have been
greatly exaggerated.
