It's been posted here by those who have used this combo that the stock flexplate on the 5.7 works fine with the 727. You just need to have the starter ring gear cut off the flexplate, as the starter ring gear on the 727 torque converter is the one used in this setup.

Flex Plate

Post by 5.7Satellite »

I did the first install, using the flex plate that was turned down, two years ago. The 66 Big Fish Charger has run well on it since. You also have to oval one hole. I put a 904 behind the 5.7 with great results. Now you can buy a direct fit part that works with both large and small torque converters from Mopar Performance. Remember, the off-set on the 5.7 fex plate is about 1/16th inch forward. That will pull the converter out of the pump a bit. There is also a chance that the turned down flx plate will crack over time as the is no formed reinforcement and the holes and slots are close to the edge. I will try to post the part number tomorrow.

According to the article in the June 2007 Hot Rod magazine where they swapped a 5.7 into an A body, the 426 hemi flexplate will work also. I haven't confirmed this myself, so it would be best to check it out before going that route. I have a spare 426 hemi flexplate packed away in storage and when I get time I intend to dig it out and check it on the crank flange on my 5.7.

Save your time. The 426 flex plate will fit over the crank flange, but the 5.7/6.1 bolt circle and bolt holes are smaller on the crank. I just dug out a 426 flex plate and checked.

Thanks for the heads up! I kinda thought that the bolt circle looked smaller on my 5.7, but couldn't tell for sure without the 426 flexplate. Another case of diarrhea of the mouth from a car magazine writer I guess!

It was fun while it lasted. Digging through the old school part's and touching them, brought back alot of old school memories.

I just pulled the flexplate off my 6.1 and it only has 3 holes in it for the converter to bolt up too.

Looks like I will be using the mopar flex plate.

I would guess the 5.7 uses a four hole?

Three holes on the 6.1 flexplate is news to me, my 5.7 has four holes.
