Torque conv flex plate?
I need to get the converter for a 5.7 Hemi/small block 727 torqueflite combo.
What flex plate and converter do you use?
What stall rating do you use with the torque converter?
I saw on the New HEMI Swap page that you use the older starter that bots to the trans and cut off the starter ring on the flexplate. Is it that easy or are there other mods to do?

It's that easy, you will have to elongate one of the flexplate holes and use the block spacer with the bottom cut off.I would recommend at least a 3000 stall converter,so the electronics don't keep stalling the engine, when you put it in gear, like mine did with a stock converter http://mysite.verizon.net/ls6ron/

What about these mopar 5.7L HEMI CRATE ENGINE ASSEMBLYINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS where it says ---The converter should also have the starter ring gear removed?
Who did you have build your converter?
Thanks for the help so far. The way you did it seemes to be the best way. I just want to figure this out so I can tell my customer because he was the one that gave me that info.
I checked out your web site, Real nice work on the engine install and the wholel car. This 5.7 hemi is going into a 72 charger.

Torque converters
Torque converters with a neutral balance must be used. It is recommended that a Torque Converter with an even bolt pattern be used. The converter should also have the
starter ring gear removed and be neutrally balanced.
Check to ensure there is enough engagement of the converter into the crank. Modification may be necessary
to mount the aftermarket converters to the 5.7L Flex Plate.
Flex Plate has been designed for a 10.75" converter. The following Ram Torque Converter and Flex Plate can be purchased separately.
5.7L Ram
• 04736587AB (Ram Torque Converter)
• 52104048 (Ram Flex Plate)

I USED A STOCK NO WEIGHT CONVERTER WITH RING GEAR.CUT THE RING GEAR OFF HEMI FLYWHEEL,ITS THE SAME RING,YOU COULD DO IT EITHER WAY.I FOUND IT EASIER TO CHUCK THE FLY WHEEL IN THE LATHE.YOU MAY BE ABLE TO USE AN AMC CONVERTER,I KNOW IT HAS NO RING GEAR,AND USE THE HEMI FLYWHEEL WITH THE RING IN PLACE,BUT I DON'T KNOW THE CONVERTER BOLT PATTERN

57HEMICUDA Thanks alot for the information
Removing the starter ring from the converter just didnt add up.
So to get my info totally correct for my customer I called the mopar prerf tec line.
Guess what ---where crate hemi instructios say--The converter should also have the starter ring gear removed--- ARE WRONG!!!
You dont cut off the starter ring on the converter. Verified by mopar preformance tec line. DUH*&^%&KJKB*
This should qualify as a stickey or somthing because there are going to be alot of people with the same question who have read the crate hemi instructions
Thanks for the help TheHemi.com and 57HEMICUDA

Flex plate
Mopar Performance now make a bolt on part that mates a 5.7 / 6.1 dierctly to a zero balance stock dimension converter or performance aftermarket converter. You DO NOT have to cut the started ring off. Use a High torque mini-starter (such as a 88 Grand Fury Cop Car, only $89 at a parts store). I just had mine shipped in. It is a nice piece.

According to the article in the June 2007 Hot Rod magazine where they swapped a 5.7 into an A body, the 426 hemi flexplate will work also. I haven't confirmed this myself, so it would be best to check it out before going that route. I have a spare 426 hemi flexplate packed away in storage and when I get time I intend to dig it out and check it on the crank flange on my 5.7.

Flex Plate Part Number
Here is Mopar's Flex Plate part number. This makes it a no brainer. P5153753
Crate motor converter and/or flex-plate
I cut the ring gear off the 5.7L crate motor flex-plate, then had Turbo Action make a converter with mounting lugs to match flex-plate (symetrical).
(My old 340 converter had the offset lug, as do all older mopars.)
My stall is 3500, wish it were slightly higher for drag strip use.
Crate motor is in '68 Barracuda; runs 13.0's near sea-level.
727 trans, and 4.1 gears in 8.75 rear axle.
