Aftermarket Heads / Cam for 5.7 Hemi?
I am not having any luck finding an aftermarket set of heads / cam / intake ...etc for the 5.7 Hemi. For a magnum im doing up, I was debating a turbo set up - But have always been such a fan of N/A raw HP motors.
Is the system that shuts down 4 cylinders (I forget the name) for the better fuel mileage the reason for no aftermarket heads?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Or should I go rent a SRT8 & steal t he 6.1 L

my 03'hemi
i read your letter about the reflased pcm for the comp.cam.i have one in my truck, yes truck.... and the idle is jumpy.what is a reflased pcm,and will it help my problem?can you help me out?
I mentioned above about KRC. They have flashes for the cams. They correct map voltages at idle to work with the new vacuum the cam will produce. There were having issues getting the flashes to "stick" with the '03 pcms but call them at least to see what the latest is.

The 6.1 crank and cam works great on the 5.7. The heads will add about .9 more compression due to the smaller combustion chamber. Be prepared for 93 octane and some have still noted spark knock on the hotter days. The 6.1 cam is a drop in and it doesn't require pcm modifications.
KRC does a pcm flash. The smt6 is a piggyback that will allow tuning via a laptop but you need to know what you're doing if you're gonna tune around larger injectors or cam vacuum changes. I've had the smt6 on my '03 hemi for a year now.

what kind of HP gains would one see w/ a set of 6.1L heads & Cam swap? Is it worth the $$ ?
Plain ole' bolt ons are not enough for what i want to do. I found headers / Chip / Air intake - but thats just normal B.S. I've got the nose off the magnum & its perfect time to slip on a set of heads.
Thanks for any info

I really don't know how much you would pick up with the head swap but the comp cam swap and a set of headers put my 5.7 at about 450 hp at the crank.12.4 at 111 mph.I think the 5.7 heads fit the engine very well, and too big of a port size isn't always better.Unless the engine is modified you would probably be better off with the stock heads.

so just some bolt ons, heads, and cam put you at a mid 12? in a truck.. that aint bad at all! How much money would you say you have total in your truck and mods? Just curious?57HEMICUDA wrote:I really don't know how much you would pick up with the head swap but the comp cam swap and a set of headers put my 5.7 at about 450 hp at the crank.12.4 at 111 mph.I think the 5.7 heads fit the engine very well, and too big of a port size isn't always good.Unless the engine is modified you would probably be better off with the stock heads.

I was gonna say then... thats pretty crazy.. the most I have seen people runnin is mid 13's all motor.. but the mods to me where unknown! I would be happy with low 14's mid 13's with mine... I mean for more speed I have the neon!57HEMICUDA wrote:I've got a stock 5.7 in a 1970 cuda with a comp cam and headers which ran 12.400 at 111mph http://mysite.verizon.net/ls6ron/
I ran a 12.8 @ 112... and broke and axle just before the 1/8th mile point and hobbled the car to the finish line! That was on 15psi!
My main goal is to open the hemi up a little, let it breath which I am sure it wouldnt mind! possible better gas mileage with the few things?
