The 1st Muscle Car

Post by HerdofHemis »

I don't know if I have company in this topic lets discuss it. With that being said it literally makes me sick when automotive Experts say 64 GTO was the lst muscle car! Actually they weren't even close. I was Tech man for Northern Cal Timing butt. back in the early 60's. Before that I raced at many tracks in Ca. I remember in 1957 the Dodge Boys
from Visalia Ca. ran a 57 Dodge 2dr post 354 cid 355hp NASCAR stock beleive it! 100+ mph, et varied because traction problems. You see
back then you had to run skinny street tires and closed exhaust. Later
tech caught them with 392 solid lifter letter series eng. Best time I witnessed was 106 mph 13.50s super stock. Definition of a true musclecar requires small light weight car with big engine sorta leaving
out Chrysler 300's. I personally Owned a 1960 383 Sonoramic. Plymouth's name for dual Quad ram induction. It was a fast car for it's
day. One thing to note is that Chrysler Corp has been notorious thru the
years for under rating the advertised HP.
past hemi cars 53 dodge 241, 57 dodge p/u 341 desoto, 56 ply 341, 58 300d 392 and many
mopar non hemi.

i agree with the 300 series cars of the 50's (although it can be considered post hot rod era or pre muscle car era)

some will argue that the 32 roadster is first muscle car (i think hot rod era)

I will not agree to the GTO
