Dual Exhaust

Post by blackhawkav8r »

I want to put dual exhaust on the truck. I have a 2004 Ram 1500 SLT (with the Hemi!!!) 4WD. What's the best setup to put on it? I don't want it loud, but I do want a nice rumble to it. I also want to improve the gas mileage. I've been told that a K&N air filter will help some.

If you look underneath your truck you will see that it has two cats. Just take it to a muffler place you trust. Have them cut the exhaust behind the cats, weld in the new mufflers and tailpipes. Viola! You got TRU DUAL EXHUAST without a time machine!! I used this setup with my truck and I love it. I had both pipes kicked out to the passenger side because of the way my moulding was.

How much did that cost you, and what type of muffler did you go with?

I went with Magnaflow 18 inch glasspacks and 2.5 inch aluminized pipes. Then I finished it with 3 inch chrome tips. The whole setup was about $325. Not bad considering that it was for a true dual with two mufflers and two pipes? I love the crap out of the glasspack rumble; naturally :)

Did you have a crossover tube installed in the duals or just go with the straight pipe?

mileage

Post by JK »

I have a 05 2500 Hemi with the 5spd auto. At 65 mph it'll average 15.5-17.0 mpg, towing my street rod mileage drops to 8-9. Has anyone tracked their mileage after upgrading their exhaust system and/or air intake system? I'm looking for proven methods to improve mileage when towing.

I just bought an 04 Hemi that was already setup. He cut it off after the Y, and ran 3'' to a Flowmaster 3'' in and out with a 3'' exit in front of the Pass. rear wheel. I' thought I'd change it to duels but It looks great and sounds mean!! Actually it is very quiet while driving but if you hammer it it will scream!!!

The Borla's are actually pretty quiet. I just did this mod on 10-4-05 so I haven't had a chance to check gas mileage.

I am really trying to increase gas mileage in this truck. Currently
I 'am averaging 11.6 mpg city driving and 12.4 hwy. Can anyone give me some tips to increase mileage. Truck has 373 gears, 5" lift, 35: tires.
I was thinking of going to the .456 gears, air intake and chip? If I could get 16-18 mpg I would be happy. Any suggestions?
