Re: Bischoff's new hemi at Engine Masters Challenge
Found this one on Amazon.com, and it appears to get a thumbs up from those that reviewed it. A good starter ? There's also the Chilton guide/manual to Gen III Hemi's. Anyone read either ? http://www.amazon.com/High-Performance-New-Hemi-Builders-Guide/dp/1932494391/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&...

Re: THE BOSS IS BACK; yeah right, another scam
As a matter of interest, in the latest edition of Hot Rod magazine, there's an interview with Don Prudomme. In the feature he states that the SOHC 427 Ford would only last a weekend when raced on Nitro - it was designed for NASCAR, remember ? - and "the block would be all cracked". Mike PS...

Re: The HEMI is BOSS and the BOSS is Chrysler
Mart, In the August '10 issue of Hot Rod Magazine, there's a feature on the Pontiac Hemi. At least I think it is, I haven't got the magazine yet, and the trail in the July issue was a bit obscure - not mentioning the actual name of the converted engine, or of the heads manufacturer. But there was a ...

For the pistons, try Hot Heads:
http://www.hothemiheads.com/
And, Egge Machine:
http://www.egge.com/
Most of the piston manufacturers will do something for the early Hemi's, but going to "one outlet" is probably better.

Next thing, buy yourself Tex Smith's book, "The Complete Chrysler Hemi Engine Manual" and get reading ! First published ten years ago, it's still the best single source for early Hemi info. 8) And then, get saving some money ......! Amazon link for the Tex Smith book: http://...

Re: Why are these engines so ignored?
Simple: The Gen III Hemi is being produced in numbers that the Gen I manufacturers couldn't even dream of, let alone make. As with all things no longer produced, the numbers around will dwindle - how many get destroyed each year racing, bad machining, left to seize and/or just scrapped ? Besides, th...

I'd go to Hot Heads for your shortest answer on this.
http://www.hothemiheads.com/
It must be something that they've covered before. There is also mention of ignition options in Tex Smith's book on early Hemi's.

Re: Dodge Unveils 2010 Viper SRT10 'Final Edition' Models
Not so. The Viper, despite it's recent Mercedes/McClaren input, is somewhat dated when compared to other cars out there - it's still good, but it can be better ! Technology-wise it is lagging behind by quite a wide margin. Fiat's plan is to bring back the Viper in a year or two's time, but with some...

Re: Piston comparison
NE57, True, with the drop in piston weight, there's less stress on the con rods etc. But whether that produces more noticeable power I don't know. You should get the whole reciprocating assembly (re)balanced though: the drop in piston weight, no matter if it's equal on all pistons, means it'll be ou...

Re: Remote water pump for the street?
If you mean the electric pump type, as seen on some drag race vehicles, then the only draw back I'd consider would be the constant output of the pump: no matter what RPM the engine's doing, the pump will continue regardless at a fixed RPM (ignoring voltage fluctuations). Simplistically, if the pump'...

Re: Daily driver 354 vs 383
If it was me, I'd say the deciding factor is how you want to use the vehicle. I'd probably go with the 383 if it to use almost every day. If it's just for weekends, or sunny days, then go with the Hemi ! In favour of the 383, then you can take it out to 432, or even 496 with Muscle Motors' (Lancing,...

He's perhaps the most knowledgable on stuff like this, at least in the first instance.
If anyone can better my information, please do !

Re: Knurlizing Pistons?
If you mean Knurling, as in creating that criss-cross, diamond-like raised surface finish on the piston skirt, I wouldn't touch it ! There's no control over the tolerances on the knurling - how much the material rises under pressure from the knurling tool. Get new pistons !

Scott, Interestingly, there's such no place as "Newcastle upon Avon". The river Avon is in the South West of the UK. Newcastle upon Tyne is the real deal, but it's in the North East of the UK, whereas Buckinghamshire is in the South East, fairly close to London. An easy enough days drive f...

Do you have a website to show us more of your engine talents, or is there a link through to the feature on your 331 Hemi ? The versions you reference sound real good !

It could be that they got stuff wrong. If so, would you be good enough to contact them and correct their mistakes ? With regard to the transmission obstacles, Gen-III to SB Mopar trans (904/727), they actually show a kit - a spacer plate for the crank/flex-plate, and available from Bouchillon Perfor...

Re: 3rdGen hemi into a body questions
Anybody reading this might be interested in the May 2009 issue of Car Craft Magazine. There's a good feature on the transplanting of a Gen-III Hemi into earlier bodied Mopars. The feature covers motor mounts, headers, a/c, p/s, both 5.7 and 6.1 blocks, carbs and EFI, throttle cables/drive-by-wire, E...
