I don't know what you've got...but the only A bodies that ever came with a Dana 60 were the very limited production 1968 Factory Superstock Hemi Darts and Cuda race cars. Even with these cars, the Dana 60 came only in the handful of 4 speed cars that were produced- the automatic cars came with 8 3/4...

Re: Willys Tornado 230 an early OHC Hemi?

Yep--the Willys OHC 6 was definitely a hemi. They were novel and ahead of their time, but never really worked to their full potential due to their small bore and relatively long stroke.

Yeah. Ideally the rods should be shot peened after poloshing. Not everybody does it though. Polishing alone should (does) in reduce the likelihood of cracks starting or spreading , but shot peening after polishing is better because it improves the surface hardness of the metal as well. As you have n...

The best setup for mid-12 second 70 Hemi Cuda??? Huh?? It'll run mid-12's in virtually bone stock form. Add a set of headers, do some carb jet and ignition timing tuning, some 4.11 or 4.56 gears and some 29 inch tall by 9 inch wide slicks on 7 or 8 inch wide wheels and it should run low, low 12's. Y...

Hemi chambers do not inherently make a ticking sound. A hemi or any engine engine with a solid lifeter cam will make a slight ticking noise - even when the valve clearence is set to proper specs, but that has nothing to do with the engine having hemi heads on it. I assume you have a new 5.7 "he...

I agree that the gear drive should not require the additional oil hole to lube and it could be- should be plugged. However, with the hole now reduced with a .060 carb jet, I doubt that this is causing enough of a leak to reduce your oil pressure. I'd look elewhere. Maybe problems with bearing cleare...

Re: "Four valve hemis?"

No..there are no actual 4 valve "hemis". There are engines though, with 4 valves per cylinders and "pentroof" chambers...lots of them. A "hemi" has a hemispherical shaped combustion chamber - ie- it's literally 'half a sphere'. Due to the round, half-sphere shape of the...

I think the black paint was only used on display motors for shows and advertising pics and was not used on production engines actually installed in cars. Back in the early 70's I worked in a speed shop that worked on several Hemi cars. (I remember installing headers on several customers cars and tos...

Cunningham intake pic links

Here's the link to 3 pics of a 4-1bbl. Cunningham C3 car intake. This one is obviously not the same as the one you mention, as this one is aluminum, so maybe Cunnigham was also into boats and did a dedicated marine intake too. Either way, if it says "Cunningham" on it it's a pretty rare pi...

Re: Safety wired hemi

Possibly NASCAR or an endurance race marine application as you have mentioned. Also, SCCA and FIA sports car racers do (or used to anyway) safety wire everything. I can't quite imagine a behemoth like a 426 hemi in sports car class road racer though.....except possibly in a late '60's-early '70's Gr...

426 Street and race hemis and the 413-426 Max Wedge race engines were assembled by Chrysler's 'Marine and Industrial' division plant at Marysville Michigan

If it's a factory Industrial and not some home-brew car engine conversion, it's definitely not a 392. As for it being a '62 model it's possible the engine was installed in some sort of industrial machine as late as '62, by the manufacture of that machine, or that the machine was sold and delivered i...

Re: 65 Valiant / 354 Hemi ???'s

You might not like this idea.....but if I was going to put an early hemi into the narrow confines of a '65 Valiant, I'd probably do away with the stock K member, shock towers and inner fenderwells altogether. I'd fabricate or buy a complete 2'X3' or so, rectangular tube stub frame and then fit a Pin...

Re:Cunnigham marine intake

Assuming it is an actual 'Cunningham' intake, it's probably not a 'marine' intake. It's likely an intake set-up for a Cunningham C3 sports car. These were a fabricated log type aluminum manifold, with four Zenith 1 bbl. carbs mounted sideways and a trick (for the time) bellcrank linkage with adjusta...

Re: 426 Marine Hemi

There's probably a bit of confusion because the 426 Hemis were built by Chryslers 'Marine and Industrial engine division', but there were no actual OEM 426 'marine' hemis. Of course anybody with the bucks and the desire could buy either a 426 street or race hemi over the counter and instal it themse...
