Re: 331, 354, 392 Exhaust manifolds
Has anyone ever looked at the size of the outlet on these manifolds? It looks so small to work with a heavy-breather like the 392. I understand that they will interchange among all the years. What about headers? The best flowing OEM mans are the "4 bolt" mans used on 300s & Chr truck ...

Re: 56' 331 Hemi - octane gas?
According to this site it is officially 7.5 C/R, and some hemis, when measured, have measured up to close to a full point lower than posted C/R, so it could be anywhere from 6.6 to 7.5. Should run on 87 w/o any problems. If you're where Sunoco sells 85 it would probably be good on that.

Re: Need help identifing hemi
VT 350 is a 331 truck Hemi. Basically like the '54 car engine. the '54 4 bl car hemi intake should bolt right on. Don't know what year it is, if the heads have round ex ports you may want to look for newer heads. The '54 car heads bolt on, think the 55 331 & '56 354 heads will work with a locati...

In the 70s "Scientists" sounded the alarm about the "New Ice Age" about to desend upon us unless we gave the Govt more control of the economy. In the 90s some of these same "scientists" & others were warning about "Global Warming" with the answer still bei...

Re: '56 - 331 HEMI (MOTOR/CARB QUESTIONS)
I see a chevy W/P out front, engine has probably been "up dated". Go to www.jalopyjournal.com then click on the HAMB. Enter "Hemi Tech Index" in search & start reading. Parts aren't cheap, but Hot Heads, T R Waters, Quality Engineered Components, and Rock Auto are sources for...

Re: Head Identification
You can see in the bottom pic that it has the tall/narrow crossover. Hot Heads intake is designed to seal that style crossover, or weld it up. Some truck heads have the square car style crossover.BOSSMAN wrote:Old thread but can somebody tell me if these castings have the exhaust crossover in them or not?

Re: number question
I think that yesterday I looked a pair of these heads that were on ebay -- the head casting number was 1632159-1 they sure looked just like these! and the description of the heat risers fit yeah, that number is the '54-55 truck heads. As I mentioned elsewhere they won't fit your Desoto(unless you h...

You'd still have the risk of loss in shipment, but..check with Gary at Quality Engineered Components. May be a bit cheaper & if originality isn't a problem he can change out the hub to take a modern fan.

OK, reads like an old article from back when parts were hard to find, guess he's used to SB Chevys! Wonder how you convert a 354 to 392? :o Put a 392 crank in a 354 block, it's been done before. I can't see where there's any advantage unless you have a bad 392 block and can't find another one and j...
