Re: World's Only 1000 ci HEMI V8 ?

I noticed that the engine is to be built by Jim Oddy Race Engines. Oddy's shop builds a lot of big-inch alcohol pro-mod 426-based hemi motors now. I'm not sure if many people know or remember this, but Jim Oddy and Hemis go way, way back. Jim was noted for his string of 354 early hemi powered Gasser...

Aluminum conducts heat so much better than iron that the comp ratio must be increased by 1 point to compensate for the heat loss, al vs iron heads. Heat is energy, & energy is horsepower. ======================================== Yep. No disagreement here. All things being equal, an aluminum hea...

you can run 1 point higher comp. on a hemi with the same oct as a wedge engine Why? ======================================== Why? Re: Compression Ratio?

The cam is the last thing you choose - after the head work, manifold etc. are done. For a 450" motor, 230° is far to mild for serious power, think more like 250. ------------------------------------- Also, a longer duration cam will allow you to run a bit more compression and/or more ignition ...

Re: 51-53 Chrysler 331 starters. Interchange?

And just so you know too.... if by chance you're converting
the car to a 12 volt system, you'll need to change the ignition
coil, but you can run the original 6 volt starter just fine on
12 volts.

As for performance, it's been proven that
a well tuned carb setup has a slight edge over fuel
injection.

I didn't realize that Offenhauser would/could do a custom run of manifolds from their old patterns on a run of as few as just 25. I *think* what you're talking about may be the "I.R." ("individual runner") intakes that were experimented with briefly during the early 1970's. Basicly they were similar to standard tunnel rams, but with the plenum section deleted. Instead of having a common plenum under the car...
