The Tex Smith book is good, but a bit thin on DeSoto. Lifters..According to Leo Lundquist's parts number books it seems that lifters can interchange between the series. It is generaly accepted the lifters for the pre 68 383/413 will work on all hyd. Chryslers. Doc Fromader on Webrodder used LA 318 l...

The "conversion kit" is a piece of tubeing that matches the o.d. of the shaft & 2 roll pins. If you have the original dizzy measure the lenth & extend the 318 to match, if not you will have to do some carefull measuring.

check Doc Fromader's 315 build on Webrodder. Get Tex Smith's Hemi book, it doesn't have as much Dodge as it does Chr., but it helps. Talk to Bob Walker at Hot Heads. The 241 is a low deck hemi. Cams don't interchange between high & low.

.125 is considerd the max. I've heard of a guy in Australia going out to 4" :o , hopefully a filled block drag motor!! Easiest thing would be '54 heads & intake.

Some adaptors for the long tail blocks are on the market, or you can cut off the extension, then bolt & weld a short tail adaptor to the block. When they raised the deck on the 392 they adjusted the heads, adding to the heads where the intake bolts on. You can then bolt any intake to the 392. How...

The OEM set up had air blowing directly into the oil fill cap, & suction of air passing the road draft tube to suck it out. I'm not shure you can "ram air" too much air into the crankcase or not. If you shielded it from direct path of the air that might give a clue.

obviously there is more pressure going in that coming out. What about a Mopar fuel filter. Cut one end off & put a grommet in it for a push in PCV valve?

I was looking @ a NAPA book once & it seemed to show the 354 points as being mirror image of the 331/392 points. Didn't make sence, don't know if true. As said above you would be best off getting a new dizzy for a 318 of the type you like. The "adaptor kits" used to "convert"...

new guy

The 331 & 354 have the same stroke. For many years a GM stick was the only adaptor available, there are some other choices now. The donor car has rear gears of 3.33 or 3.55, 3.33 most likely. You can bore out to 354, but that is a max overbore, & if there isn't much internal rusting of the c...

My understanding of the situation is that the valve stem runs up to the chamber. Oil can't go up on its own do to gravity,so there is no need for a seal.

That # w/o the -7 is 354. Standard bore is 3.9375. You'll need to get someone to mike it to know exactly what your situation is. A1 is the foundry that made the block. There is a flat @ the front of the vally pan, if legible there is a code that tells what it was. which water holes we talking about?
