The Tex Smith book is good, but a bit thin on DeSoto. Lifters..According to Leo Lundquist's parts number books it seems that lifters can interchange between the series. The 331 & 354 have the same stroke. For many years a GM stick was the only adaptor available, there are some other choices now. The donor car has rear gears of 3.33 or 3.55, 3.33 most likely. You can bore out to 354, but that is a max overbore, & if there isn't much internal rusting of the c...

That # w/o the -7 is 354. Standard bore is 3.9375. You'll need to get someone to mike it to know exactly what your situation is. A1 is the foundry that made the block. There is a flat @ the front of the vally pan, if legible there is a code that tells what it was. which water holes we talking about?
