Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

It's not the crank stroke that is the problem, it's the big end of the rods. Although we always used bulky aluminum rods and had to do alot of grinding, I can imagine a steel rod with the shortest possible rods would only require minimal clearancing with a 5/8 arm.

Re: Adjustable rocker

According to my old Chilton's book, all Chrysler 300 MECHANICAL lifter cams had the valve lash set at .015 on the intakes, .024 on the exhaust. ALL OTHERS were hydraulic lifter engines. 8)

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

Yes, a 5/8 "arm" is a 4.525 stroke. Bless our old welded stroker cranks. A 5/8 was about the limit with the aluminum rods of the day and there were no steel aftermarket rods...then, not that anybody would even think, back then, of running any steel rod. Conventional wisdom, at the time, wa...

With the timing set of your choice installed, rotate the crank till #1 cyl. is at TDC. Measure the height of each lifter on cyl. #6. If the intake lifter is higher...the cam is advanced. :o

That # does not show up in any of my data, however...since the numbers tend to run sequentially... it's below the 1952 casting numbers, in my book. Can you get the number off the front, top, center of the block? it's stamped, not cast.

I listed 3 sources above. The manifolds I ran were CRAGAR, unfortunately...they quit making manifolds years ago, just wheels now. Good luck finding one today. There were others. M/T (Mickey Thompson) was one. Most anything you find used will be a piece of junk requiring massive repairs ( welding, re...

Re: old blowers and intakes

Well, it's not really a bolt on deal. Blower manifolds (new) are available from a few sources, Hot Heads, Weiand, PAW ). Then there is the blower. If you acquire a used, stock, GMC 6-71...it must be converted and overhauled. The case must have the "hook" milled off the base, rotors inspect...

Re: Heads..which would you do?

IMHO, for street use, I'd go with your other set of castings. SI industries sells a good 1 piece replacement valve, both intake and exhaust, at reasonable prices. (they have them with 11/32 stems as well...if you want to changeover) I've used their better grade valves in blown fuel cackle car motors...

Re: Degreeing w/o a cam card?

No problem with the questions. The reason to use #6 is that is where the dots line up, it's half way thru the firing order so the results are the same as setting up off #1. #6 is at TDC and #1 is at TDC OVERLAP. If... you want/need to change the initial setting and you are using a timing chain setup...

Re: Degreeing w/o a cam card?

Easy way to set it "straight up". Install degree wheel and pointer. Set # 6 cyl on TDC...use the positive stop method for accuracy. Install timing set "dot to dot". NOW, select 2 lifters THAT ARE EXACTLY THE SAME HEIGHT, push them down the #6 lifter bores to contact the cam firml...

Re: Oil Pump Gear Clearance?

In the 354 pumps I prefer .001/.002 clearance between the gears and cover plate. I'd think a 392 pump should be about the same. Be careful, check EACH tooth on both gears as they may differ and, be VERRY careful, if you sand/grind the housing, to keep it square. I use an expanding mandrel thru the s...
