Sounds like you have a little dirt under the needle that closes the fuel off when the float reaches its proper level. If you do not have a fuel filter in the line I would strongly suggest it. I would put it between the carb and the fuel pump. I would also put a filter in the line that is transparent...

Adjustable valve cover dimples

I've got 2 sets of Chrysler FirePower valve covers that are for use with the adjustable rockers. Each set has a different type of "dimple". One set has a rectangular dimple with a slightly rounded top and the other set has a perfectly round dimple. I'm curious if Chrysler just used a coupl...

Here is a list of the casting numbers on the adapters used with automatics on the back of the early hemis from 53-58. 1409544 was used on the Dodge and Desoto in 1953. I have one of these and it is cast steel and is also thinner than the "344". 1532488 was used on the 54 Chry. and Desoto. ...

I just checked my adapters and the 1612344 is for use with the earlier 2 speed automatics. The 1612344 was used in all three engines(Chry,Dodge,Desoto) so your 1612344 must just have a burr on the pin or maybe a pin is pressed in a little crooked. You in theory should be able to use this adapter on ...

The 1736183 adapter is stock for the 57-57 Chrysler and Desoto and Dodge. I can say from my own experience that the earlier adapters used with the PowerFlite 2 speed trans are a little thinner. I have both in my garage so later today I will measere both and post the results here. Al :D

You could try Kanter Auto Parts or Egge Machine Co. They both supply cast replacement pistons for early engines. They usually advertise in the back of some hot rod magazines if you need to get their phone number.

Definitely a Chrysler 331.....has extended bell(only Chrysler from51-mid54) and the head castings are early 331. Does it have adjustable rocker arms? I have heard that some industrial engines had them and that some don't.

Is it actually the excess stud that sticks up past the nut? If so you should be able to trim them down even with the top of the nut without fear of losing any gripping power. Good luck!

The 2 barrel (i'm assuming) intake and the trans are not worth much other than to a restorer. If it's a 4 barrel then you have something worth keeping. Pretty much the same with the gen/power steering pump. When you make the intake you can provide some 1/2" pipe thread ports over the head water...

I used Silvolite pistons made for the 292 Ford Y block in my 330 Desoto which I think has the same bore as the 291. The stock bore 292 piston was actually .030 over for my 330. All that was needed was to cut the reliefs in the pistons.

Maybe you could space the chevy pump out enough to clear the fuel pump "bump" in the stock timing cover. I used a big block chevy pump on my 392 however I had to cut the bump out and weld in a flat plate. Even doing this the pump just barely clears which is all that is needed. Of course if...

My 58 Chrysler 392 hemi and my 58 Dodge 325 POLY both have the same "pentagon" water pump. Maybe try to have them look it up under those listings. Those may be a more common listing. You could always get a local rebuilder to help you out by rebuilding your own pump.

Your casting numbers do not match any casting numbers I have listed for any of the early hemis. I would suspect it fits a non-hemi engine maybe from the late 50's or early 60's.

Yes, the Chrysler has different bolt pattern and the pump is larger.....no way to machine it to fit Desoto that I am aware of. Yes the pumps have sealed ball bearings in them. Sounds like you may have to bite the bullet and wait for a Desoto pump from over here. All I can say is that sucks!!! ...

The Chrysler and the Dodge water pumps will not work on the Desoto engine. Any of the Desoto pumps from 52-57 will work on the 55 291. Early ones had grease fittings and the later ones did not. Kanter Auto Parts have them however they are in my opinion expensive and you need to send them a core. Try...
