I believe the person who sent you the information is incorrect when he states there were no 4 bbl's in '57. My '57 341 was a stock single 4 bbl from the factory and in addition the high performance 345 that year was equipped with dual 4 bbls. I also have one of those manifolds. The dual quad manifol...

Actually the 331 is a Chrysler engine and shares little if anything with the DeSoto 276. If you were refering to the DeSoto 330 that's different. The 330 is a raised deck block while the 276 is a low deck. Cylinder heads will interchange along with some minor internal parts, such as the timing gears...

VT-448 is a 331 cu. in. but the VT-549 is not listed in Leo's book. I checked my documentation and can't find that number either. A lot of data is missing on Dodge and Fargo truck engines so the only way to tell for sure on the second one would be to pull the heads and check the bore. If it's physic...

Stock compression. No reason to go any higher since it's basically a cruiser.

Sound bite

Here's a sound bite of my just completed 331. .030 over, J&E pistons (8.5 compression), Isky (muscle car) cam, big port heads, Edelbrock 600 carb. running stock C300 exhaust manifolds with 2 1/4" duals and Thrush turbo-tube mufflers. I probably overwhelmed the internal mic on the computer a...

Here's a pic of the '54 331 thats in my '53 Chevy pickup. It's a bit of a tight fit but it certainly does fill out the engine compartment. Will be starting it for the first time in a couple weeks, once the wiring is completed. http://www.hotrodsandhemis.com/exhaust/engine1.JPG http://hotrodders.com/...

Back from the dealer. Rear rotors were fine as were the front. They replaced the calipers on the front and all is well with the world. The SB said to surface the rotors and replace the calipers but our rotors (the ones they replaced 10,000 miles ago) were still OK. Hopefully these new calipers will ...

Just made an appointment to take our 03 in for brake vibration for the SECOND time. First time was at 3000 miles when they replaced the front rotors. I think the problem this time might be the rear rotors more than the front as I'm not getting a lot of vibration through the wheel and I doubt they re...

If it is a '53 and if it is a DeSoto then its a 276. To verify this simply check the pad just in front of the valley cover near the passenger's side and there should be a number prefixed by the letter S followed by the number 17 (S 17). That will prove its a '53 276. The 331 was a Chrysler engine an...

Toyota's Tundra is nothing more than a stick in the mud.

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone street racing but the other day I had a Tundra V8 4x4 that decided he was going to out accelerate the Dodge. Although I have almost 15,000 miles on this truck I've never really floored it. To make a long story short, I'm sure that now he's sorry he bought a Toyota...

Here is what it looks like to me. 1957 had three 392 engines. The first listed as NE57, 325 hp with single 4bbl used in NYer. The second is CE57, 325 hp, single 4bbl, used in Imperial. The third is 3NE57, listed as 375 hp, 2x4bbl carbs, used in the 300C, which would include solid lifters and 4 bolt...

I believe you have the 375 hp '57 392. My info shows both the 380 and 390 versions should have a 58N3 code vs. the 3NE57.

I believe in the original "Hemi White Paper" they talked about a flow test that was done on DeSoto heads. The result was that the DeSoto hemi heads flowed no better with .500 lift than with the valves entirely removed. Could be that any more than about .500 lift doesn't result in any appri...

331, 354 and 392. Pre-55 331's must modify the manifold to use a remote thermostat housing. For all the rest it will just bolt on.
