Re: What's your street carbueration?

Those fabricated manifolds look cool but remember without any factory heat they are a bugger on cold days and any day without warming up the engine before you drive. I like the simplicity of the Carter AFB and Edelbrock designs. Many MOPARS used AFB's from the factory.... I don't dislike Holleys and...

Re: Pushrod checking

lash caps will slightly increase the diameter of the valve tip giving the rocker a larger target on the valve tip. To find the pushrod length you need simply install those "checkers" by taking out all the "lash" then use that # as a mean length for the new push rods... you'll the...

Re: Piston comparison

As far as comp ratio goes I would think you can go 12-1 on premium pump gas without fear of detonation...it's a Hemi not a wedge.

Re: Compression Ratio?

Would it then be a fair assumption that a vacuum advance(actually vacuum retard if I understand it right) distributor would be helpful in avoiding detonation in high load/ low speed situations in a high CR motor? I'll be needing to pick out and buy a distributor and this aspect would be a definite ...

Hard chromed shafts are uneeded on a street engine. A race engine with high valve spring pressures would benefit but not any engine I'd ever build.

Those lifters can be resurfaced for just a few dollars. There are several cam grinders that can do that for you.

I don't think you have an extended bell block...the bellhousing does bolt on, correct? The 331 non-extended block was used in late '54 and '55 in cars. Of corse this engine has value....many of these are simply passenger car enigines used in industrial applications. They were used as water pumps, ge...

"Around here the charge is $400.00 (varies by shop) to weld/grind the crank throws, straighten the crank and grind the mains...don't know about welding the mains." 4X100 = 400 plus now you know it has 5 additional main journals that cost 100 per journal. So that would be 5X100 + 4X100 to ...

A big project but it IS a 392...A-1 casting...one cylinder busted due to a water freeze-up...two broken rods...one piston has a hole thru the top where one rod poked thru! The amazing part is the block looks good....and the crank is nice. I've got it at the machine shop right now getting disassemble...

The only internal mod is a cam? That sounds a little too easy. Many of these engines had at least 10-1 compression from the factory....a little cam really wakes 'em up. Re: New Guy needs help planning!

I just bought a 54 Chrysler NewYorker just for the 331 Hemi. I plan on putting it in my 37 buick one day. The engine has the bellhousing on it. Besides having to buy the adaptor for a transmission, and the extra room for mounting it, does this cause any other problems? Second, does anyone have one ...

Dont feel alone....many have dreamed of a 2x4 cross ram for early hemis. The only production pieces I have seen are the early Weiand 6 x 2 crossram, or (as an add on) the Offenhauser bolt on adapters. Some guy did come up with this one tho. :o Vic Jr. said he doesnt remember his dad ever making one...
