I'll tip my hat to a Lady. I'll tip my hat to the HEMI. And the rest? Hmm.

Re: Toyota's 2,000-HP Land Cruiser Sets New SUV Top Speed Record of 230 MPH
"Turbochargers are for people who can't build engines." – Keith Duckworth. Yeah, he's right. Back 47...48 years ago the 426 HEMI powered SUPERBIRD would do 220 miles per hour under ideal conditions. Ideal conditions meaning somewhere to actually drive it. And that was naturally aspirated. ...

Re: Why a V8-Powered Alfa Romeo Giulia is the Italian-American Mashup We Need
"Shelby Cobra anyone"? Not my cup of tea, but, I would like very much to have a Jensen Interceptor. As reliability problems with the Alfa Romeo could be solved by repowering it with MOPAR engines and drivelines that they have access to, I don't see why it shouldn't just come down as an ord...

Re: Help Strong Vibration when ideling and running
The number on the 1966-71 harmonic balancer or vibration damper for the 426 street HEMI is 2658871. For the 1964 race HEMI it is 2268905. For the 1965 race HEMI it is 2532975. The number 1604 2 is someone else's number. Doesn't come up. 2658871 is what you're looking for. And you will be looking for...

Re: Marvel at the Aston Martin Valkyrie's 6.5-Liter V-12
Naturally aspirated I like. One-thousand horsepower I like. At 10,500 rpm I don't like. 546 ft/lbs torque I like. At seven-thousand rpm I don't like. An impressive engineering exercise to be sure, but, that car's potential will never be seen on the street. To put things into perspective, the 1970 50...

Re: What is infinitely variable valve control?
As soon as I read "desmodromic" I remembered the first Ducati motorcycle that I adjusted the valves on. It's a good system in the fact that it will hold a tune indefinitely, but, they can be a torment to set up. If you're not methodical and fastidious, then forget it. Interesting, what the...

Re: NHRA Handicaps the HEMI after U.S. Nationals Domination
When I read this I laughed so hard that I blew the foam off my beer. That extra 50 pounds in the right place just might help the car to hook up for even quicker times. If they want to remove weight from the bowtie and blue ovals, they might want to start with an enema; 'cuz I think that everyone kno...

Re: The Hemi LS: Yes, it’s Real, and it Kicks butt!
A few years back, HotRod bought a boneyard LS and set it up for forced induction. Apparently the reciprocating assembly was bone stock and they put 26 pounds boost to it. The result was sixty dyno runs at over a thousand horsepower. The part that I thought was most interesting is that HotRod believe...

The NHRA will still have a 24 event series. The NHRA is adding a new event to replace the Englishtown race, calling it the VIRGINIA NATIONALS at Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond,Virginia. June 8-10, 2018. All that aside, closing Englishtown sucks!

CARtoons
I just received my Nov/Dec 2017 issue of CARtoons. Issue #12. On the cover is the Plymouth Fury from Stephen King's Christine. As usual the magazine has a removable centerfold; Christine in all her flaming glory. From what I've read about the movie and about this particular car is that the Plymouth ...

I'm nowhere near Texas but I am watching through very sober eyes. What those people are experiencing leaves me aghast. Perhaps somewhere along the way to becoming a professor, Kenneth Storey should have had the opportunity to read or watch BAMBI; where we all remember THUMPER saying, "if you ca...

Re: Mazda introducing 'spark-less' gasoline engine in 2019
When everyone else had pretty much thrown in the towel on the Wankel type engine, Mazda persevered and made it work. They're an impressive engine, and Mazda has my respect. Any time Mazda have an announcement like this, it's worth a closer look. Gee, I wonder how long it'll be before Ford reverse en...

Why do the Fords not use Ford engines, GM use Gm engines and Toyota use Toyota engines?
This question, asked by a guy in Nashville, with regard to NHRA Top Fuel, received a "reply". Personally, I found that the reply was the typical "ring around the rosie" and "all around the mulberry bush" that comes from someone that quite simply hasn't got a clue, or, h...

Re: 392 Hemi rear main seal leaks
Not too surprisingly, most people nowadays haven't the foggiest clue how to put a rope seal in an engine. Or a neoprene seal for that matter. Maybe yours is leaking because it wasn't installed properly in the first place. If it wasn't prelubricated before startup, the first turn of the crank would'v...

A company that's been around since the forties is Jack Best's BEST GASKET for the vintage market. Their part number for a rear main seal for a 57-58 392 is P/N 3A07. It is a two-piece neoprene that can be staggered from the main cap parting line. It can be installed without removing the crankshaft, ...

Back in February 2010 on page 53 of Popular Hot Rodding, at the Engine Masters challenge, Dove Manufacturing Co. dyno data showed 633 hp@6300rpm and 585 ft/lbs torque@4200 rpm for their Ford SOHC. Dove's engine is a 492, 65 cubic inches larger than the 427. Same architecture. On Dove's site the 427 ...

On the cover of the MAY 2015 issue of HOT ROD magazine, an article by Thom Taylor: "FORD'S HEMI KILLER TURNS 50!" The article runs from pages 92 to 99 and has several archive photos, but I found the text to be nothing more than rehash propaganda with some revisionist history. I remember wh...
