Re: 331 HEMI

Thanks for your input Mart I am just trying to make sure I make a well informed decision. I just don't want to make a mistake that I will regret in the future if i would ever need to sell the car or something.

Re: 331 HEMI

I think you'd be hard pressed, using a little 291 and trying to make it equal or exceed the power of a 383.....at least still keeping the build cost within reason and having the resulting engine be streetable. I agree though, that the price is still pretty good. It might be ideal for someone buildi...

Re: 331 HEMI

OK, I was able to look at the engine, and gather all of the info on it as it turns out it is a 1955 desot 291 firefox HEMI. I am guessing this changes most of the info we have already discussed. Sorry for the mix up the guy that found it for me was told it was a 331. I do have photos, so when I am a...

Re: 331 HEMI

Guys I really appreciate your help and input!!! I am pretty sure I am going to buy the engine and start the rebuild. I don't need anything that is going to burn up the drag strip just something that will look and sound good going down the road. I live in town so racing is pretty much out of the ques...

Re: 331 HEMI

Mart thanks for your advice. The truth is I want the wow factor of the Hemi, but I don't want it to be to sluggish, which is why I ask about power. The engine was running and had 40lbs of oil pressure when it was pulled. Basically if the 200 plus HP will be enough I am OK with that. I still would pr...

Re: 331 HEMI

I read through the article, first off it is very good. The question I do have, is it worth replacing my 383 that is re-built with only around 3500 miles on it. Also can I get enough power out of a 331 to make it worth it.

Thanks for the help.

331 HEMI

Hey guys I need some help yet again. I just found a 331 hemi with an adapter plate already made to bolt up to a 727, motor cranks over by hand, but I don't know if it runs the guy wants $850.00. what is the down side of trying to put one of these in a 69 charger? also is the price within reason. Tha...

I will have to look and see what this cost. as I said I rebuilt the 383 hp motor, and it runs real good. maybe I will just get lucky and find a 426 some day.

I thought about one of the new ones, but I really like the old school look. I also may have a stupid question, I have seen a couple of 69 charger 500 with 426 hemis in them and they still have the power brakes and stuff. So I guess my question is, what is the reason that stuff won't fit when you use...

I would love a crate 426, just don't have the cash. I was reading the article on the conversion, and now I am not sure as I would have to lose the power steering and the power brakes. I really like having both of those on my charger. But at the same time I would love to have the hemi in it. Thanks f...

Thanks for the info, I could really care less about how much power is going to the ground, I mostly go to car shows and cruise ins. Plus I would love to see a big set of Hemi Valve covers under the hood.

Again thanks for help!!

392 Hemi conversion

Hello, I am new to this site, so I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. I have a chance to trade my 383 HP motor out of my 1969 Charger, for a fresh rebuilt 392. my motor and tranny are also fresh rebuilds. I was wondering if this is worth it. Plus I would like to know how hard it is to do t...
