Weiand mag front cover
I purchased some hemi stuff, a lot of it from "in the day", and in the pile, I found a 392 Chrysler Weiand magnesium front cover. Has anyone ever seen one? Nobody I know has. I tried to call Weiand, but they apparently have merged and no longer have a telephone presence. A person wants to ...

Re: 354 Hemi build
A couple things to think about before assembling. 1) There are two pipe plugs at the ends of the oil galleys at the rear of the engine. Behind the larger of the two (in about 2") is another small pipe plug. It needs to be removed to clean the oil galley on that side. 2) The oil bypass valve wil...

Re: 354 Hemi build
Hello Hemi8 Are you going to install 4 bolt mains? Expensive, but worth it, as you will end up with a solid foundation, and can just keeping bolting on stuff for more power as time/money/wife allows. If not 4 bolt mains, then good studs with a Waters girdle will help. We saw the main caps moving aro...

Re: What's your street carbueration?
Hello '57 With an IR manifold, and I recommend the ones from Hot Heads, the IDA51.5 mm are a little on the small side. IR's require a large carburetor. I KNOW that you'd be pleased with the EMPI 51.5's. I'm building an engine for a friend and he's purchased the EMC 51.5 mm induction system from me. ...

Hello David I don't do secret very well. lol We're ready to go on the dyno with our 388 cid EMC entry, and probably won't be able to get the stack deal together in time. It should be ready for dyno session #2, and I'll post all the numbers. I'm building an engine for a street rod (335 cid, 255 flat ...

Re: 2X4 factory hemi manifolds
Hello all. Thanks for the info. I've spoken to several folks who are very savvy in all things early hemi. All three have advised that the '55-'56 log type manifolds are better than the '58-'58 manifolds. None of them mentioned that the '55's and '56's are different. The '55 331's have larger ports, ...

2X4 factory hemi manifolds
Hello all I'm looking for the best stock 2X4 Chrysler early hemi manifold. I believe that they made two different kinds. Anybody have any ideas, part numbers, or even a "feel" for this? I'm going to have a 380 cid. EMC "dyno mule" engine "left over and looking for a job"...

Hilborn now sells an EFI stack injector setup. I have a set of MFI Hilborn stacks that I'm converting to EFI for fun and giggles (and to be ready if EMC ever allows more than four butterflies). The conversion is quite simple, just a matter of drilling out the .125" NPT MFI injector bosses for E...

A couple things RE: 354/392. Yes, short deck heads will fit on a 392. Hemi heads will fit on a poly block, and will work fine. Poly heads will fit on a hemi block, but the push rod holes are different. The '54 and '55 331 heads are far superior to the 392 heads. With fuel injection, the deck height ...

Hello David I've been reading your posts and looking at your pictures. Nice If I might, I would like to offer an opinion on block cleaning. We run a bottle brush hone through the bores and then sonic check. Then we run it through thermal cleaning and a shotabrader. The thermal cleaning kills the rus...

We don't know what the rules will be for next year, but we're counting on them remaining as is regarding power per cid, and an 11.5:1 compression ratio. To that end, we're assembling an engine (4.015" X 3.825"). The block is honed, crank and cam are in and timed, two sets of heads have bee...

The pix is an aluminum test sample of the cast iron pattern. The aluminum block will be thicker.
Recommended bore limit will be 4.300", and it will easily accept a .750" stroker.

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts
It's my understanding that a .750" and/or longer stroker is doable, but that a .625" is pretty much the "sweet spot". Any larger, and friction eats up power at high rpm, and the breathing ability of the heads starts becoming an issue.

Bischoff's new hemi at Engine Masters Challenge
Yahoo!!! Bischoff's engine was by far the class of the field. He just plain smoked everyone. Nobody was even close. Not only did he win convincingly, but he also won the highest peak horsepower award. And his engine was far from the largest. I just acquired a 5.7 hemi (no idea of what it's out of, b...

Hello David
They are very nice. They run good as purchased, and if you want to devote some time/effort/money, they can be made to run about as well as anything out there.
Bob Walker, owner of Hot Heads, is a super guy. I'd recommend giving him a call.

Re: new oil pumps
There are two early Chrysler oil pumps.
One fits all low deck engines (301, 331, 354) through 1956.
The other fits both low and high deck engines (354, 392) 1957-58. I think. lol

Re: new oil pumps
Yes, the list is goofy. lol The 392's have a slightly different bolt pattern. A very good alternative is to use a small block Mopar pump with a Hot Heads adapter. These pumps are dirt cheap and perform well. We use 'em in both our EMC engines and in our Jr Fuel dragster. Zero issues. They are a Gero...

Re: What are "555" heads?
The 1954 and 1955 heads are the best, the only difference being the water outlets. The 1956 are just a tick less desirable. Be careful with industrial heads. Not all have the large ports and valves. Many of the late industrial engines come with passenger car heads (on Windsor blocks), and hydraulic ...

By the way, we also did the mess around with a Hot Heads single plane with several tops. Same day, same engine, same dyno. It ran better than the single plane, but not by all that much. I can't remember the numbers, and the dyno sheets are not handy. I believe that with Holley 660's it made about 20...

Re: What's your street carbueration?
I don't have any street experience, but the Hot Heads dual plane sure worked well on our Engine Masters Challenge engine. I'm a fan of large carburetors. On a 335 cid (slight overbore, slight destroke), the bigger the carburetor, the more power - start to finish. We ended up with a 950 Holley, and m...

We were having trouble with the front main cap moving around on our 354 EMC early hemi. The engine is partially filled, cryo treated, and has 4 bolt splayed main caps on the center three mains. We had no issues up to about 550 horsepower. We noticed metal transfer on the front main cap at around 575...
