Re: 354 stroker

Yes, the counterweights have already been trimmed, but it will need to be balanced. Hopefully that won't prove to be too difficult.

Re: 354 stroker

I just picked up a 392 crank that has been machined down to 354 mains and BBC rods with 4.05" stroke for a 331 or 354. I want to get pistons for this, but where do people recommend that I go? I don't want to have to reinvent the wheel here so I would like a piston manufacturer who has worked wi...

Re: Stroker 392 Crankshafts

But most, if not all of the people "back in the day" that were using stroker cranks didn't bother with running water in their motors so they could cut up the water jackets without concern. My question is what is the largest stroke that a stock motor with uncut water jackets can take? Did t...

Re: Chevy Distributior?

I sell a conversion to use the GM HEI module on the stock '70s mopar electronic distributor. That is what I use on all of mine. You can check it out at: www.designed2drive.com
For a stock look, I would use the Pertronix II in a stock 392 distributor.

Re: does early chrysler poly/hemi intakes interchange, if not, t

Yes, they all interchange hemi-poly from 1955-1958. Even the 392 will interchange with the 331. 1954 and earlier will not interchange with the newer ones due to the water jackets being in the intake, but you can still use them if they cover the water openings and you route the water to the radiator ...

EFI conversion for 392

I am looking into converting my hot-heads 4bbl manifold to EFI. Does anyone know what size and type of injectors I should use, as well as the throttle body? Is Megasquirt the way to go for the control or is there something better or easier? My current plan is to purchase parts separately and build i...

Dan,
Is it advisable to use taller rods and pistons with the pin higher up? Have you tried this?
Thanks.

Can anyone tell me for sure; 100%, whether or not the Chrysler poly (331,354) camshaft is the same part as a Chrysler hemi (331,354) camshaft? Tell me also how you know.

Can you tell me if those heads have water outlets on the ends or in the center of the intake mount? I have heard of truck motors with dry intakes and am trying to figure out which ones (if any) they are. Thanks.

I suspect that a compatible coil just refers to the correct primary resistance. The pertronix modules require at least 2 ohms primary resistance. If you don't have it in your coil, you can use an external ballast resistor to make up the difference.

It is centered on the crank. It is used to center the manual transmission shaft with a bronze pilot bushing installed. How accurate is it centered? Accurate enough since all 392 cranks (to my knowledge) are actually drilled for the bushing. Accuracy would only be an issue on much later cranks where ...

I don't know about the drive gear value, but I do know that you cannot use the marine motor in a car directly without a rebuild. First, the crankshaft has no provision to mount the timing gear. You need to pull out the crank and have a shop weld the mount on, or put in a car crankshaft (usually chea...

I have a 57 Dodge truck with a Dodge 315 hemi in it. What you have is a Chrysler motor though. The Chrysler truck motor came as a stock option in the larger trucks, usually 1 ton and above. This truck should have a 3-speed torqueflite transmission though, not a 2-speed powerflite. Sounds like it is ...

I agree. I believe it is wider and the exhaust exits at a lower angle than the 426. I used one of those brake linkage arms or scissors from a later A-body on my 68 Barracuda. It looks a little goofy to me, but it works. There may be some adaptation required to use it on the B-body, I'm not sure. The...

I have performed a 392 hemi swap in a few cars now including a 68 A-body Barracuda, a 56 Savoy, and a Dodge truck. I wouldn't even consider putting one in a car you wanted to drive much without cutting a lot of weight off of them. The cars handle horribly with all the extra weight of a stock 392 mot...

I wouldn't bother for a 331 or 354. A new original pump is still available from RockAuto: AIRTEX Part # 4280 for $46.79 + shipping. This is also the same pump that the poly 277 and 301 "A" motors used.

If that is true, then why does Hot Heads sell two different sets of aluminum heads for 51-54 331, pn WJ540 and 55-56 331/354 pn WJ541 ?? I am pretty sure that the aluminum 51-54 heads he sells does not utilize water outlets through the intake manifold. So what is the difference between them? http://...

You are correct. Stock color is (argent?) silver for the whole motor except breather, spark plug wire covers, and air cleaner; which were black. Chrysler 300s had gold valve covers and gold air cleaners. Everything else the same color as the other models.

Stay to the 4", but remember, if you plan to use std bore 392 pistons you will loose about 1. of compression due to a smaller dome volume. I have heard that before, but I don't understand it. Doesn't the 392 have a larger combustion chamber? Thus, going with the smaller head should give higher...
