Re: engine buildups using early 1951-53 heads, porting results ?

I'm using a pair of '53 round port heads on the 331 going in my '37 Dodge PU. The intakes were matched to just under the outline of a '55 manifold gasket. The exhausts were matched up to the round port header flanges I'm using which came out to 1-5/8" diameter. I blended back around 1" int...

Re: EFI conversion for 392

I'm using the tunnel ram base from PAW along with a MegaSquirt controller on my 331 Hemi project A fabricated top will house a pair of side-by-side throttle bodies, each one fed by a T04B turbo. I'll be sinking a #65 low-Z injector into each port runner. I bought the PCB and CPU for the MegaSquirt s...

Thanks for the link Bob. I gave it a quick bid ($20.00) just to see what the response would be. We'll keep on top of this since it's exactly what we're looking for.

Cheers, Mark

Bob, I'm MAW on the spectra board as well. Too hard in my advancing years to keep tract of all the usernames and passwords, easier to pick one and use the hell out of it  I want to stay with an all glass hull. Did a restoration of a glass/mahogany boat a few years ago that was a PITA, never aga...

Was wondering if this was the same napabob from spectramarine.com . We've got a 1974 20' Spectra with a 468 Gen IV BBC, 6-71 & EFI. We're looking at a similar project as your Sanger for my middle son right now. Just trying to find an older classic hull in restorable shape to hold a 354 Hemi whic...

Don't suppose you have an older Spectra around the house as well?

I'm using a Wilcap adapter between my extended bell 331 and a A833 OD transmission. I chose a hydraulic clutch assembly. It slips over the input shaft and retainer eliminating the traditional fork assembly. Your braided lines exit the bell and go directly to your clutch "master" cylinder. ...

Sounds like a lot of downside risk ( and $$ ) for a potential 2% gain in displacement. If you're running the early small port/valve heads ( which I am also ) you're not in it for the big HP numbers anyways. BTW we're running 0.100" oversized Manley SBF SS ProFlo valves with small stem guides in...

Hi Johnny, Welcome from another relative Hemi newbie. One more here with an early extended bell motor. Our block needed a minimum of 0.060" to clean up so we had the walls sonic tested. Due to core shift ours will take a max of 0.100" and be safe (in the mind of the machine shop owner). We...

Could you please post a pic or two of the Chrysler manifold, I can't find anything on your web site. Also since you're taking orders, what is the price?

Thanks, Mark

Modifying a marine crank for automotive application

Hi all, Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate for having a marine 331 crank welded/machined to work in an automotive application? Or is it better to sell it off and just buy the proper core? This was a reverse rotation engine so do the modifications also include the rear main seal surfaces? Thanks,...

Block parts

Hi Bob,

What's left are the camshaft, inner front gear cover, drive gears, oil pan, oil pump and floating pickup, and possibly the crank.

Yes, this one will be used in a street rod.

Stripping a marine block

I'm stripping down a marine 331 (M45 S) block for an automotive application. Is anyone interested in the marine specific parts being taken off?

Enderle

You can buy new Enderle Bugcatchers here (Southern California) for around $350 USD. This is for the basic polished hat and butterflies - no injectors/lines/barrel valves... . Several vendors sell them at the local hot rod swap meets, but have them at their shops for the same price. Let me know if yo...

Remco, My BBC/6-71 uses a 4" snout, this is on an older Cragar manifold. You had an earlier posting concerning the use of the Enderle Bugcatcher on the street. We use this on our BBC/6-71 on a family ski boat and have found it to be quite docile. We built a Megasquirt ECU then drilled the exist...

Thanks for all the feedback. I assume there would be no valve/cylinder wall clearance issues with the 354 heads and the 0.200-0.250" larger dia valves? I was going to just clean up the bores, looks like 0.040 will do just fine. Any ideas on what percentage of 331 block sonic test good for the 3...

331 HEADS

Thanks,

Wasn't sure if there was enough meat surrounding the valve seats for the 2.00/1.75 valves to be used. Even though I have a spare set of heads to work with I didn't want to see the water jacket staring back at me :D

Great site BTW,

Intro and valve size question

Hello all,

We're building a 331 Hemi for our 37 Dodge PU. My question concerns the valve sizes for the stock '53 heads. Can the later, larger valves be installed if the seats are opened up appropriately, and the larger hardened inserts added for the exhaust?

Thanks for any help,

Mark
