Re: DeSoto w/ S2T block number?

Scott,

An S21 is a 291 Desoto. Sounds like the T is a 1.

It has been along time since I looked at this senerio, but as I recall the port spacing was off by about 1/8 of an inch on either 2 or all 4 ports. They you have to drill the bolt holes. Let us know how it comes out.

Go to the bottom of the home page on this site. Take your mouse and click on "Identify". A couple of nice pictures of hemi motors will appear. This should help you since a picture is worth a thousand words.
Good luck.

Thanks.

Are the early hemis all the same engine family? Is there any interchangeabilty between them? I really appreciate any help/ advice. There are several books out on the market you could buy which would get you up to speed on the early hemi's. They are all different, and not much interchanges. Don't ju...

If it was a 241 it has been bored 1/8 th over already. You would need to have it sonic checked but I would guess the walls are getting pretty thin. Thin walls are not good for mega boost and heat created by mega boost. Crank is also a weak spot in those motors if you want to make mucho HP. Main caps...

It is the distance from the centerline of the crankshaft in the block,(center of main cap) to the deck where the head bolts on. If your block has been decked or milled you will not get the correct measurement but it will be close. :)

For general information, unless you are going to make a single plane manifold for some real performance it is hard to beat the factory single 4 barrel manifold. If you want bigger runners you just send it to extrude hone and they can take care of that. If you want to mount a holley you can use an ad...

Nothing wrong with Ed Pink. Last year he came and talked at one of our club meetings. Still as sharp as ever. Toyota has him doing R&D work for them. I asked him questions about timing chains in SOHC Ford motors he worked on years ago and his reponse to my question was instant. I would not hesit...

Duane, You will just have to try both units. Your individual taste will determine what you can and can't live with. If you do run the 4-2 use the 81's, or something even smaller if possible. When the dust clears it all comes down to personal preference. Good luck. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ...

I know of one guy that did it. He was a machinist by trade and took a set of 265 chevy pistons and put them in his 291 desoto. It has been a long time since I have talked to him but as I recall he used some kind of ford rod also. This was many many years ago when 265 pistons were dirt cheap. Questio...

IMO log manifolds don't cut it. They look cool but that is about it. All good intake manifolds have long runners. The old Edelbrock 6-2 manfolds will outperform a 6-2 log manifold everyday of the week. Reason? Edelbrock used runners from one bank to the other. When I was a kid bigger was alway bette...

Peter, I guess parts in your part of the country are very expensive. (I have noticed you sell your parts for premium prices) Out here on the west coast prices are more reasonable. I just picked up a Vertex mag for a chevy for $100 at a swap meet. And I happened to know the owner and it is good. Over...

Vertex mags The Chevy models rotate in reverse of Chrysler mags. Expensive conversion. Peter, You are half right and half wrong. :) Early chryslers mags run clockwise, but late model chryslers run counter clockwise. You can adapt a chevy mag to run in an early Chrysler. With a vertex you just chang...
